St. Chrysostom's Episcopal Church: Booker Chapel
Nominated for a 2015 AIA Design Excellence Award
This project is a new chapel for a St. Chrysostom’s Episcopal Church in the Gold Coast neighborhood of Chicago. Conceptualized as a space for private reflection, the Brooker Chapel is designed to harmonize with the adjoining sanctuary. A plaster vault gives height and reverence to the space, while new stained glass windows based on the building’s original Charles J. Connick windows gives the chapel a sense of history. Embedded symbols reference the church’s patron saint, St. Chrysostom, which can be found in the stained glass design, the decorative paint scheme, and in the floor’s wood patterning.
